Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine is a form of treatment developed in China over hundreds, if not thousands, of years. One of the key foundations within this sphere of healthcare is acupuncture, which involves inserting needles into key meridian points located throughout the body. These points are determined by the body’s circulatory and waste management system. The treatment aims to redress any imbalances within the body and, as such, must be carried out by a professional acupuncturist. Fortunately, CGH Hospital now has experts in the field of acupuncture, ready to provide this alternative form of treatment for a variety of medical conditions, such as stress, insomnia, allergies, stroke recovery, various aches and pains, as well as growth support for those under the age of 20 years.

Currently, traditional Chinese medicine is gaining in popularity within Thailand due to its history of providing successful and effective cures for people who may be allergic to other forms of modern-day medication. Acupuncture is by far the most popular form of traditional Chinese medicine and has been officially recognized by the World Health Organization as being effective in treating up to 57 different kinds of health conditions.

Traditional forms of Chinese medicine

  • Acupuncture
    • Acupuncture involves inserting needles into various points throughout the body and is most commonly used as a form of pain relief. The areas at which the needles are inserted are referred to as meridian points, with such treatment designed to redress any bodily imbalances by stimulating circulation.
  • Cupping therapy
    • Cupping therapy involves placing cup-shaped objects onto various points of the body in a way that creates suction. It is believed that this technique improves circulation, reduces the build-up of waste, redresses any bodily imbalances, and decreases muscle fatigue at the points at which the cups are placed.
  • Chinese herbal medicine
    • Chinese herbal medicine is used as a form of treatment for certain disease and other health disorders, including influenza, chronic fatigue, and insomnia, as well as for reducing the side effects associated with cancer treatment.
  • Moxibustion
    • Moxibustion is a form of treatment that involves burning herbs close to the skin in order to treat or relieve irregular symptoms.
